Once again, on September 25th, 2026, Ancona enthusiastically welcomed SHARPER Night, the European event dedicated to scientific dissemination. The initiative is part of
MSCA and Citizens
, funded under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions within the Horizon Europe programme.
The SHARPER project (SHAring Researchers’ Passion for Extreme Regions) aims to bring citizens closer to the world of research through participatory and inclusive experiences. The focus is on exploring “Extreme Regions” – from ocean depths to outer space, as well as the most isolated communities – to build a sustainable and informed future together.
The event took place simultaneously across 13 Italian cities, including Ancona, bringing squares and urban spaces to life with scientific talks, interactive workshops, performances, and exhibitions.
In this context, the UNIVPM team presented the REDRESS project, capturing the public’s interest in marine biodiversity and ecological restoration across European Seas, from Island to Azores in the Atlantic Ocean and from the western to the eastern basin in the Mediterranean Sea.
The public was enthusiastic to learn about restoration interventions using different approaches (such as eco-reefs, badminton approach, and ASDERs) and about the monitoring of these interventions using innovative and cost-efficient solutions (including HD cameras, hydrophones, ROVs, AUVs, and crawlers).
Young participants also had the chance to simulate sampling activities on deep-sea sediments, using manual corers and plastic boxes to store samples for further laboratory analysis. It was a great opportunity to test the deep-sea exploration skills of the next generation of researchers.
