Satellite event on “Restoring European seas: sustainable fisheries management and deep-sea ecosystems”, Auditorium, Media-TIC – Barcelona, 09 April 2024: 15:00 – 17:00
This Satellite Event co-hosted by Barcelona’s Marine Research Institute (ICM-CSIC), Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) and WWF Spain highlighted insights and accomplishments from diverse stakeholders, emphasizing two vital facets of ocean health: sustainable fisheries management and deep-sea restoration. A featured workshop showcased Project MedPath, illustrating how various initiatives have positively impacted fisheries information and management in the Mediterranean. Additionally, representatives from deep-sea restoration projects – H2030 REDRESS, LIFE Lophelia, LIFE DREAM and LIFE ECOREST – shared their experiences. The event has been concluded with a panel discussion exploring how these projects can contribute to enhance ecosystem functioning in European waters, addressing science-based fisheries management and deep-sea restoration.
Roberto Danovaro presented an overview of REDRESS and showed how the project can contribute to the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030).
